No that is not exactly it. The actual definition of senoritis is seniors becoming extremely lazy. We lose are zeal for school, because we are so close to the end. We are late to all of our classes, and when we do happen to show up at one of our classes we goof off, or sleep. Our attention is focused on the weekend whether our last crazy weekend or the next one that we spend all week planning. Tests scores go down because no one studies. Homework, well what is homework again. We shrug off being here on time to school, and are all excessively tardy, but who cares we are Seniors and that's how we roll now. We care more about hanging out, than writing essays, and I might add for good reasons. We spend all our time playing cards, or watching movies, or pulling off practical jokes. What about our grades, ahh who cares, just as long as we graduate. We're now going into the world to become who knows what, considering this years Senior class. We all rock and we know it, so if your not a senior hahahahahaha! Because life is great being a Senior.

Michael's Random Post #10

Topic: Nip it, nip it in the bud

Well, as most of us already know, Don Knotts has passed away Friday at age 81. It will begin at 3:55 and will be held in the Oneonta City Council Meeting Chambers at 202 Third Avenue East. Our opponent will J.B. Pennington High School. The matches will be aired on WKLD-FM (97.7) at 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday and Thursday. Wish your fellow scholars bowl team good luck. =]

Tuesday, all as we all know, is Valentine's Day. I'm sure the halls will be filled with pink and red and white all day. Be sure to support your fellow students and their clubs/activities.

Thursday Emrald Night will go to district band contest. Most of the band members (including me) have never been to such, so wish us good luck. The time we play is not decided as of yet.

Friday selected students will be going to Bevill State Community College to compete in teams of three in various categories. The students, ranging from Sophomores to Seniors, need to have their permission slips and five dollars turned into Mr. Hughes by Wednesday. Remember, all three students must be present or your team can not compete, so make sure you are there so that everyone will have a chance to win. The categories range from Grammar to U.S. History and Vocals and instrumental Solos. Students will have chances to obtain scholarships as well. This should be a good opportunity for all.

So this week will be a busy one, and if you have Mr. Martin for U.S. History don't forget your essay on Immigration is due Monday. =]

EARLY Monday Blog Fest.

Good Sunday morning to you all. I'm doing my Monday Blog today so I don't forget.

There's lots of stuff going on at The Fork This week, so let's get down to business:

The Fork

On Valentine's Day there will be a balloon and rose sale benefiting Emrald Night, our marching/concert band. Be sure to bring some money. Latex Balloons coming in Pink, Red, White, Purple, and Green will be $1.00 each, and roses will be $3.00 each, and they are the prettiest roses I've ever seen.

Also, the FCCLA will be selling Valentine's Day Candy Grams this week, so be sure to bring money for that also.

In addition to these two sales, the School newspaper will be on sale this week as well, the price is $0.50, so bring a couple of quarters and see if someone left you a Valentine's Day ad.

The Valentine's Day Dance will be held this Saturday, so I hope you have a date! See the website for more details on that. The Xbox raffle will be held that night, so if you bought a ticket, make sure you're there!

The Ham

There are lots of good local bands coming up this week. First off, if you aren't doing anything tonight (Sunday) Full Of It, a political punk band from Birmingham will be playing Admission is $6. Here's the lineup:

SUNDAY FEB 12TH $6
New Mexican Disaster Squad, Redneck Manifesto, Attack Formation, Probably Tornadoes, Full of it(they live!)
http://www.purevolume.com/fullofit
http://www.purevolume.com/newmexicandisastersquad

Also coming up this week is a great show, including Locust Fork's own Danger! and Mountain Brook based band The Ackleys. They have just come back from touring south Alabama and Florida, so be sure to give them a warm welcome back! This is going to be a great show, so don't miss out! There may also be a surprise band playing, so make sure you're there, who knows who it could be? It's also Baak Gwai's (great band based in Tuscaloosa) CD release show, so make sure you bring money for a demo, the price is five bones.

Friday Feb 17th
Baak Gwai (cd release show!), The Ackleys, DANGER!, mystery band?
http://www.purevolume.com/baakgwai
http://www.purevolume.com/theackleys

A week from today holds a great show as well. The Lawrence Arms are playing Birmingham, they are a great band that should be shown a great turnout so that they'll come back, they're definitely worth seeing. Also playing this show is two local bands: The Payoff (very good, very mature rock) and Hot Collar (straightedge punkrock from the ham)

FEB 19TH
The Lawrence Arms, The Loved Ones, The Payoff, Hot Collar
http://www.purevolume.com/thelawrencearms

http://www.purevolume.com/thepayoff

http://www.purevolume.com/thelovedones

ALL OF THESE SHOWS ARE GOING TO BE AT CAVE9. Be sure to not get the place in trouble, there were some problems a couple of weeks ago with crowd control. IF THEY SELL OUT GO HOME, DON'T CROWD THE STREETS.

Directions can be found at:
http://cave9.com

Movies This Week

New movies out this week include The Pink Panther, Final Destination 3, Firewall, and Curious George. So if you're looking for something to do on Valentine's Day, take your significant other to the movies!

Band of the Moment: Mates of State.
Mates of State is a California based band composed of two musicians/singers: Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel. They are just an organ and drumset, and two amazing voices. Their genre is hard to describe, but it is very catchy and maybe even a little bit 'poppy'. Their first record was listed in the New York Times as one of the best records you probably didn't hear in 2000, as told by their website. Their lyrics are deep, and melodic. You can check them out on their website at http://matesofstate.com.

Well, I think that's all for this week. Be sure to keep reading, if there are any changes I will definitely get them up here. Hope you all have a great week!

~J-Mart.

Michael's Random Post #9

Topic: A Death in the Munster Family

This week we have lost a Grandpa that we all knew and loved, Al Lewis or Grandpa Munster. Lewis became a familiar face on US television for his role as the irascible Grandpa Munster in the 1960s sitcom, as a Dracula character. Beyond the screen, the former basketball player became a respected talent scout, ran a restaurant in New York's Greenwich Village, wrote two children's books and campaigned as the Green Party candidate for governor of New York. I never really realized that he accomplished all that. I just knew him as "Grandpa Munster." In 2003, bad health slowed him down and complications during surgery led to an emergency bypass and the amputation of his right leg below the knee. Goals are very important in your life to help you be successful. I'm going to give you a few keys about setting goals and achieveing them. First, you have to set a realistic goal. You can't just throw something up like, "I want to be a millionare". You must take steps. Be reasonable and true to yourself. Statistics prove that if you write goals down where you can see them daily you stand more of a chance to achieve that goal, because it will make you work harder. You must also visualize yourself making your goal. Don't give up, and give yourself time to achieve your goal. Start working towards your goals today. Ask yourself, "What can I do today to get one step, however small, closer to achieving my goals?" Remember, you can do anything you set your mind to. Things don't always work out as you had planned. Stick to your goals, but be flexible. Keep your goals to yourself. Don't let your goals out to the public who may tear you down. If you choose to share, share with someone you trust. Be able to take constructive critisism. In my opinion, it's crucial to set goals. You won't achieve any goals if you don't set them, so get out there and set yourself a goal or two. Good Luck with your life goals!

Until "Random Post" #9, I'm out!

M. They met at Gerry's house to play.

"What do you want to play with," inquired Gerry.

"Legos," exclaimed Sally

Gerry went into his closet and returned with a gigantic box of legos. He then proceeded to open up the top of the box and dump all its contents onto the floor. Gerry and Sally both shouted at this action, as they started to piece together their exquisite creations.

"Hand me the wheels," asked Gerry, "I am going to build a fast car."

"Pass me the flowers," voiced Sally, "I am going to build an beautiful house with a garden."

They laughed together as they slowly and skillfully worked the pieces together to further their wonderful creations.

After a while John, Gerry's older brother bolted from his upstairs bedroom. He came rushing into Gerry's room with a diabolic purpose.

"Hey loser," commented John ," Watcha doin'" as he said this he looked down at his little brothers just-finished car and his little friends pathetic house. He then proceeded to hurl his brother's car across the room and watch it shatter into pieces on the far wall. Next he started to jump on top of Sally's house destroying everthing she had worked so hard to build. John laughed a deep laugh that came from the depths of his being and shook his entire body. He walked out of the room looking smug and thinking himself a little more better of a person.

Sally started to softly weep. "Why, why would he do something like that," cried Sally quietly in between her little gasps.

"I don't know," said Gerry as he picked up the shattered remains of his car.

However just then walked in Chris Gerry's other older brother. "Oh no what happened hear," lamented Chris seeing the very apparent sadness on the two children's faces.

"John just walked in here and destroyed my car, and Sally's house that took us so long to build," whispered Gerry.

"Well I know it has took you a long time to put together, but how about this why don't I help you put them back together," asked Chris. The children shouted in laughter at his question and readily accepted his offer. With Chris's help both children had put back their creations together.

Well here it is people, the moral of the story. Actually, pretty much the reason of the story. Everyone has dreams and goals and ideas and lives that they are slowly building. And usually it is not to easy. Sometimes people come in and destroy everything other people have trying all their lives live to accomplish. However sometimes some people come about and help further other peoples lives.

Today why not trying to build up someone, instead of tearing someone down. Be encouraging, not discouraging. Don't destroy someone, help someone. Be overly loving, not overly critical. Find the good in other people, and turn away from the bad.

Thanks and have a nice day.

Late monday post

It's late! I read their news page daily and even if I don't have anything to do on the computer I'll get on just because Google ROCKS! Now that I have completely wasted your 2 minutes it took to read this and completely made myself look like a nerd, I'll let you take your eyes off my "random post"....

Until "Random Post" #7, I'm out!

M. I started craving chocolate oatmeal cookies, so I decided to put the recipe for them on here.

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup margarine
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets. Stir together the flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon; set aside.
2. In a large bowl, creamtogether the margarine, brown sugar and white sugar. Beat in the egg and vanilla. Stir in the dry ingredients using a wooden spoon. Mix in the oats and chocolate chips. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto cookie sheets, leaving 2 inches between cookies.
3. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until lightly browned. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.

I've never had them with chocolate chips, so don't hold me to that part. When is the last time you finger painted, or went out side, or built a castle out of legos. When is the last time you colored a page in a coloring book or day dreamed about far off lands? When is the last time you thought about what the clouds looked like or when is the last time you gazed at the stars in wonder? When is the last time you didn't go home and turn on the TV, or get on the computer, or talk on your cell phone? When is the last time you slowly went about your day calmly taking in every aspect of the world?

Can you remember? Can you remember when life was not stressful, but simple? Can you remember just loving friends and family no matter what?

Life has become so complicated. Why? Do we want it complicated? Truthfully it seems so.

Today I have a challenge, a simple challenge. Read a book, draw an airplane, make a friend, take a nap. Don't turn on anything, unless it is an oven to bake cookies. (lights are ok too) Live life simply, today just breathe, think, live.

Monday Blog Numero Dos.

Jessica here with Monday’s blog update. This week, there is not much happening in the magic city, so I’m going to give you some ideas for things to do this week.

Things Going on at The Fork:

No School Today, January 16th.

Prom Tickets go on Sale Tomorrow! Be sure to bring in $40 to pay for your prom tickets, Juniors and Seniors. Keep in mind that this is $40 per person and not per couple. Ticket prices will go up after January 26th, so be sure you get them while they’re still cheap!

Things to do: Movies:

If you have a night without homework and want to have a date, girl’s night out, or you just have “a hankerin’” for a good flick, there are lots of great movies out right now. Hostel, the horror film/box office hit is out, if you like blood and gore; The Chronicles of Narnia, which is still in the top three, is still out for you book worms, and King Kong is still holding on to the third spot in the box office for those of you who have less than ten minute attention spans.

On Friday, January 13, quite a few movies came out, the likes of which include Queen Latifah’s Last Holiday, the drama Tristan and Isolde, the sports flick Glory Road, and the animated comedy Hoodwinked.

All of these films can be seen at Trussville’s Regal Trussville 16 (http://www.fandango.com/TheaterListings.aspx?source=nav_theaters), but if you’re willing to drive a little farther, Hoover’s Patton Creek 15 is a very nice and futuristic theatre that’s close to the Galleria. You can order your tickets online using http://fandango.com/ or go to
http://ravemotionpictures.com/ for the Patton Creek location.

The Chronicles of Narnia: (http://www.fandango.com/MoviePage.aspx?mid=86080&source=np_title)
Hostel: (http://www.fandango.com/MoviePage.aspx?mid=94195&source=np_title)
King Kong: (http://www.fandango.com/MoviePage.aspx?mid=2599&source=np_title)

Things going on in Birmingham this week:

If you’re 17 or over, and enjoy a good laugh, the Comedy Club Stardome is having a one night only show with none other than Pauly Shore on Tuesday, January 17. They have two shows: one at 7:30 and one at 9:00pm (but remember kids, you have to come to school the next day!). Tickets can be bought online at http://stardome.com/ or at the Stardome theatre in Hoover. Be sure to get there early, this one’s bound to sell out! Tickets are a hefty $25.50, so be sure to bring a wallet full of cash. 444-0008 is the number to call to buy tickets from the stardome, be sure to have a credit or check card if you call this number.

Other upcoming events in Birmingham include the Broadway hit Hairspray coming up in March, and the Barnum and Bailey’s Circus coming up next week. Ticket information will be up for those events starting next week.

Local Music Spotlight:

This week’s local music spotlight goes to The Ackleys. Hailing from the Birmingham area, the Ackley’s consist of sisters Allison (keyboard/vocals) and Katie (guitar/vocals), Carter on drums and Michael on bass guitar, with all of them being 18 or younger. They have been interviewed by Birmingham’s National Public Radio and various other publications. Their sound is rich, happy, and warm, and they put on a really great show. Their next show is on January 28th at Cool Beans Coffee House in Birmingham. Doors open at 7 o’clock and as soon as I get a ticket price I’ll have it up here, chances are it won’t be over 5 bucks. You won’t be disappointed, they are a must-see. To hear songs from their album and more information check out their myspace at http://myspace.com/ilikelikeliketheackleys.

Panic! At The Disco

Panic! At The Disco, who came up with their band name by combining a line from "Panic" by The Smiths and a song by Name Taken (also called "Panic"), are a very young band for such a large fan base. Three of the boys are only 18, while lyricist/guitarist, Ryan Ross, is only 19. The band is made up of Ryan Ross (guitar), Brendon Urie (vocals/guitar), Brent Wilson (bass), and Spencer Smith (drums/percussion). Despite their young ages, they have managed to create a unique album, A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out (released in September ’05), that most adolescents can relate to. They've been all the talk of Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz for over a year, after leaving him a link to their purevolume.com account on his livejournal after hearing about his new label, Decaydance. Wentz was quick to sign the boys in winter of ’04 and get them started on the album, which sold nearly ten thousand copies in its first week. He even had writing sessions with Ross, and some of his lyrics appear in the album (“I aim to be, your eyes, trophy boys, trophy wives” in “The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is Press Coverage”). The boys are often compared to Fall Out Boy, though their sound is much different. Ross tells Brandon Herbel of absolutepunk.net “for the people who have heard our entire record and still think that we sound like Fall Out Boy with keyboards...well, I just find them to be musically inept.” However, Ross does agree that vocalist, Brendon Urie, has a similar voice to Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump. He goes on to say it’s basically because they actually know how to sing correctly. In fact, Urie had taken voice lessons for a year before the band got together.
Enough about the boys, let’s talk about the music. The boys insisted on splitting the album into two halves. The first half full of drum machines and synthesizers, and the second half complete with stumbling Vaudevillian piano parts, pizzicatto strings, and even an accordion. Their mix of music is so unique, but if you’re not reading too much into it, you may not even notice it. From the second the first words are sung you’ll be hooked. You’ll be singing Ross’s vivid lyrics in your head all day, and Urie’s rich vocals are just as impressive. So how is it that a few boys just out of high school are getting so big so fast? Well, go buy the album and find out for yourself.

http://http://panicatthedisco.com
http://www.myspace.com/panicatthedisco
http://www.purevolume.com/panicatthedisco

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://lfhornetblog.blogspot.com/2006/01/panic-at-disco.html' title='Panic! What has the term come to mean? Once being human meant nothing more than trying to survive. In this new day and age, though it has begun to change. Into what? Humanity is slowly evolving into a species that is barely even conscious of survival and ideas of life focus only on what is wanted, when once the focus was on need instead of want. People are coming to the point where the necessities of life are so abundant that they are not even recognizable. Luxuries are becoming so easily accessible and varying that people are constantly wanting more than enough. They are also finding new inventive and horrific ways of reaching to fulfill personal desires. People are abandoning family ties, relationships are almost pointless with divorce rates soaring. What are humans becoming?

Once humanity thrived on the land, the world, and its resources. Now humans "live out of their suitcases, cars, offices." People thrive on the unhindered wanting of each other. "I want more money, I want a better car, I want a better house, I want perfect health, I want crazier entertainment, Truly as the old cliche goes "I want this, I want that." or better said "I am human so I am entitled to everything and anything I want no matter what." When Thomas Jefferson wrote that people have the rights of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, I wonder if he would have ever perceived that humanity could reach the point where life and the pursuit of happiness contrasted each other. When pursuing happiness means hurting yourself and other people around you?

Who is to say what is too far? Who gets to say this is reaching a harmful place for myself and others? Is regulating this a form of communism. You are can no longer be in charge of what makes you happy.

Where did the good old days go? Do people even understand that concept "the good old days." When people say everything was simpler, when life had less stress and death, where people not only considered their own families but also their neighbors as something worth treasuring. We regard technology with the highest esteem but it is truly only destroying who we are by making us want to work less and be less. We are doing less and less and allowing other things to do everything for us.

So here is a big question. What makes us human? Is it reaching a point where we do nothing and live with the greatest luxuries of all time? Or is it working with our hands? Or challenging our minds to the fullest extent? Is it loving others or is it loving ourselves? What makes us human? Are humans meant to be fast paced and stuck in offices or are they meant to live "off the fatta da land?" Are we meant to live simple lives or complicated ones? How do you want to be human? That thought is the one thing that will never change. Since we are humans we have the choice.

Personally I think it is time for "A new way to be human."

Welcome to the reviving of the blog!

Well, it's a new semester here at "The Fork", and after some debating, we have decided to make the blog more, well, formal, I guess you could say. From now on, every day will have a new post by a different student, and I, Jessica, am the Monday Blog Reporter. This week's topic is just a bunch of random stuff I think needs to be addressed and advertised. Most likely as the days and weeks go on, you can expect me to have weekly events posted. They will range from things happening at school to things happening in the community.

I definitely plan on making some reviews on local music, because that is something I believe needs to have attention.

Ok, now on with the post.

Things going on this week at The Fork:

Monday: Today the students get their xbox 360 raffle tickets. If you would like to be in the runnings to get one, be sure to have two bucks handy. Most of the students are selling them, so just ask!

Wednesday: The legendary Harlem Globetrotters are coming to our school Wednesday morning for a game and some awesome stunts. Admission is five dollars. I know it's a little pricey, but it really is a great experience, and we want to make sure the Globetrotters have a huge welcome, so be sure to go. You won't regret it.

Friday: It's the day some of the students have been waiting for, and some of them are dreading it. Report cards go out Friday.

Things going on in the community:

Birmingham:

Thursday, January 12th, Locust Fork's very own Danger! (http://www.myspace.com/dangerashbury) will be playing at Cave9 (http://www.cave9.com) with The Judy Garland Death Squad. Admission is five dollars and the doors open at 6:30. For directions visit Cave9's website.

Danger! is a local rock band, and all of their members have attended orare currently attending Locust Fork High school. They are a very talented band, and they deserve a lot of support. To hear songs from their new ep, Danger AShbury, check out their myspace mentioned above.

Music of the week:

Bloc Party: (http://blocparty.com) An Indie band from England, Bloc Party is an energetic and catchy band that is sure to appease your appetite for new music. Check them out and buy their newest album, Silent Alarm.

I'm sure I'll be updating this with more events, but for now I hope you enjoy!

Jessica

Michael's Random Post #2

Topic: Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson has been sued by the veterinarian who tends to his exotic animals at the Neverland Valley Ranch for unpaid bills. MJ has not been back at his Ranch since June when he was charged with you know what. He owes the vet, Martin Dinnes, $91,602. The hearing has been set for May 2nd. Jackson's lawyer said, "I have not seen the complaint and cannot comment until we evaluate the situation." (Whatever that means.) Anyways, it sounds like Wacko Jacko needs to pay the bills.

Until "Random Post" #3, I'm out!

M. I guess I will do it on the new movie, "Fun with Dick and Jane", starring Jim Carey. This movie is kind-of like an update of a 1977 comedy where a couple turns to robbery and to pay the bills.

I'm going to see this movie this afternoon, and then I will try and get a review up for it by tomorrow. I have high hopes to laugh hysterically at Jim Carey, because he really cracks me up. Until tomorrow, I'm out!

________________________________

I have now seen "Fun with Dick and Jane". It's the funniest movie I've seen in awhile on the big screen. Jim Carey, who plays the character of "Dick", couldn't have done a better job. Every character he ever portrays you can't imagine anyone else doing it, because he does such a wonderful job. The people in charge of Dick's company pull a "Scrushy" and mess with the company causing it to crash and one man with all the money; leaving everyone without a job. Dick and his wife start losing everything so they turn to robbing little stores and such. It's hilarious. Jim Carey is the best ever with facial expressions. He always works in some pretty wild faces. I don't want to give away the ending, but it definitely has a good one. At 1 hour and 25 minutes, it leaves you wanting more. The movie goes by really fast. Minus a few words the movie is pretty clean, so if you want a family comedy this could be a good one. Don't say I didn't warn you! There are a few words and jokes that kids won't get, but overall "Fun with Dick and Jane" is a good one to see. For a comedy, I give it out of five.

Until "Random Post" #2, I'm out!

M. It was a great fast pace game. The score doesn't really show the whipping that got put on the Panthers. They were worn down by the 2nd quarter and the Hornets were just getting warmed up. The Hornets pressed and pressed and forced turnovers which led to easy buckets. However the Hornets weren't very successful from the free throw line shooting only 10 of 25. They look to improve that with their upcoming game vs. the Tigers of J.B. Pennington.

Thanks to all the fans that came out and supported and went absolutely crazy all night long. See me and my friend Jesse are normal friends that care about each other, but what you might not know is that I’m Christian-Pagan, while Jesse is a devote Christian. We both have very different views about our religion, but we both find a common ground in tolerance.

See, I believe in god, but as the all, or the universe. I also believe that every religion has some truth in it, and that all gods are of one god; and goddesses are of one goddess, and these are the feminine and masculine aspects of the all (or god). I also believe in Christ, and that he is the perfect example. I also prefer to worship god in nature, over a church. For the simple fact that I feel closer to god in nature, because nature is of god’s design, and that this has not been altered by man’s design. I do not like the Cross because it symbolizes Christ death. Don’t get me wrong Christ death is very important and, according to the bible is the only saving of our souls; but, I prefer the Pentagram over the cross, because it symbolizes his rebirth. To me this marks the victory over death, and proves that he is Christ. Also the Pentagram represents man, and we are created in god’s image, so to me it is a symbol for god.

I, Jesse, will now write on a conservative compact view of Christianity. I believe that God is a being, a deity and that He is a divine Creator composed of three personages Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. I believe that Christ is the Son of God and that He is not only the perfect example but also perfect in every way. That he followed the law that God laid down in every aspect. I believe that Christ is the saviour of humanity. I do not have a certain place that I prefer to worship, even though I attend Church in a building, as well as Bible Studies that are conducted inside homes of friends and trusted teachers. I believe that is good to have a daily quiet time with God where a person can be alone with God, the place does not matter, and I personally suggest nature or anywhere that is comfortable. I support the cross in that it does represent death, and that this particular death was the most important death. It says in Matthew 27:51 “Behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom.” When Jesus died the barrier that separated man from God was broken and any person now has complete access to God through Jesus Christ.

As clearly seen by anyone both mine and David’s beliefs are very similar in some ways but completely different in others. Does this stop us from being friends, no! It strengthens us because, it does not matter what religion, race, or nationality you are, for we are all equal!

So please if there are any comments, let them be about what you believe and hold as truth. If you have a comment attacking either our beliefs or us then keep them to yourself. The purpose of this is not just to present our views, but also to promote religious tolerance, so do your part in not attacking others and their religions.

David Reid & Jesse Mitchell

Basketball Season Arriving

In 14 days LF will have their first Varsity basketball game of the 2005-2006 season. I couldn't remember the exact law or name. If you have ever read lengthy discussions or comments on the internet, you will realize it to be true.

Godwin's Law states:

As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1.

Although the law does not specifically mention it, there is a tradition in many Usenet newsgroups that once such a comparison is made, the thread is over, and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever argument was in progress. Godwin's law thus practically guarantees the existence of an upper bound on thread length in those groups.

It is considered poor form to arbitrarily raise such a comparison with the motive of ending the thread. There is a widely-recognized codicil that any such deliberate invocation of Godwin's law will be unsuccessful.

How quickly can a discussion end with Godwin's Law? Take a topic - any topic - and see how quickly you can relate it to Nazis using legitimate topic drift methods. For example: a discussion about computers will eventually lead to discussions of keyboards and which are best, followed by a lot of complaining about the Windows key on 104-key keyboards, leading to complaints about Microsoft, forcing the standard MS-vs-government flamewar that I'm sure you're all aware of, leading to attacks on Microsoft's "fascist" tactics by one side or another, which will force the other side to start talking about the differences between fascism, capitalism, and, of course, Nazism!

There is more information at Wikipedia.

Last Football Game

Tomorrow the Hornets end the 2005 football season by visiting the Susan Moore Bulldogs. It has been a long, rough year, but I am very proud to be graduating with the Senior football players of this year. Most of them have been contributing to Varsity athletics since the 7th and 8th grade. (Not to mention going through three different coaches in the past four years.) They have all been through alot this year. I would like to call them out on keeping their heads up and always picking themeselves up and going back out there and leaving everything on the field. They have also had a couple key injuries this year which definetly hurt them on both sides of the ball. Good Luck to any Senior football player who wants to go to the next level. The rearranging of the lunch tables. Was I the only one that thought it was even more confusing than before?
I think there should be some major changes in our lunchroom. There are so many problems in there it's crazy. For example, when your class gets inside the lunchroom you have to wait five minutes at least for a table. Then once you get your seat you have to go get your food, provided they don't think they've "already fed everyone" and put all the food away. Then you have to fight the crowd to your seat and by then you have about 8 minutes to eat your food. It's crazy, and I think there should be some measures to stop it, like changing the schedule so there's not a five minute waiting period for the next class. I want to know your opinions. All I know is the young ones are lucky they're getting a new lunchroom.

Harriet Miers

I'd like to see what everyone's opinion is on Harriet Miers (Bush's nominee for Supreme Court Justice). What about her lack of experiance as a judge? I'm not sure how a person who has never been a judge before can be a Supreme Court Justice. But then again, Bush has a knack of nominating somewhat unqualified people (Mike Brown, anyone?) Who knows, maybe she IS a strict constitutionalist, but if thats true, whats all the hype about her stance on abortion and religion? In a court of law, what does her personal stance on an issue have to do with the law, it's what she has to abide by, no? But this is just a special case of a more general phenomenon. There was a time when slogans like "you can't fight City Hall" captured the power imbalance between big institutions and ordinary individuals. Thanks to technology, things aren't that way any more. The Goliaths are still figuring it out, but there's an army of Davids out there, slings at the ready.

Most businesses and institutions are well aware of the public relations nightmare that can occur when attacked by traditional media outlets. All institutions, including our beloved Locust Fork High School, need to be aware of the immeasurable power of the new media to shed light on sensitive topics and apply pressure to perceived wrongdoings. As the era of the "citizen journalist" hungrily emerges, these organizations need to learn to embrace the new technology, using it to promote their interests and engage those outside the traditional top down power structures. Open and honest dialogue is the best operating strategy as attempts to crack down and stifle dissent has time and again resulted in overwhelmingly increased negative publicity.

In starting this blog and utilizing our school's internet site, I hope our school will be a model for how high schools should embrace the culture of the information era. I encourage people to take interest in what is happening at our school and participate in the exchange of ideas through our internet presence.

Last Homecoming

Well, todays activities were great and memorable. As I looked around today at everyone standing around our (Senior) section it made me think about the times I was in all the their shoes; looking in the reserved section seeing and looking up to the "Seniors". Now, my fellow classmates and I were in the "Senior" section. The class of 2006, in the past few years, hasn't really shown school spirit like we did today. We finally realized nothing is like high school life at The Fork. As much as we want to get out and move on, we will NEVER forget the times we had. The school is really adding on and gaining a ton of new students from all over. There is construction going on all over campus to make YOUR high school life better and more enjoyable. My advice to the Juniors and other lower classmen is to make the most of it and participate in everything possible. Show class and school spirit in every way. Enjoy your years to come before you walk off that field, never to return to Locust Fork High as a student again. Good Luck to everyone in class....of what......

06!!!!

______________________________

M.
