Monday Blog Numero Dos.
Jessica here with Monday’s blog update. This week, there is not much happening in the magic city, so I’m going to give you some ideas for things to do this week.
Things Going on at The Fork:
No School Today, January 16th.
Prom Tickets go on Sale Tomorrow! Be sure to bring in $40 to pay for your prom tickets, Juniors and Seniors. Keep in mind that this is $40 per person and not per couple. Ticket prices will go up after January 26th, so be sure you get them while they’re still cheap!
Things to do: Movies:
If you have a night without homework and want to have a date, girl’s night out, or you just have “a hankerin’” for a good flick, there are lots of great movies out right now. Hostel, the horror film/box office hit is out, if you like blood and gore; The Chronicles of Narnia, which is still in the top three, is still out for you book worms, and King Kong is still holding on to the third spot in the box office for those of you who have less than ten minute attention spans.
On Friday, January 13, quite a few movies came out, the likes of which include Queen Latifah’s Last Holiday, the drama Tristan and Isolde, the sports flick Glory Road, and the animated comedy Hoodwinked.
All of these films can be seen at Trussville’s Regal Trussville 16 (http://www.fandango.com/TheaterListings.aspx?source=nav_theaters), but if you’re willing to drive a little farther, Hoover’s Patton Creek 15 is a very nice and futuristic theatre that’s close to the Galleria. You can order your tickets online using http://fandango.com/ or go to
http://ravemotionpictures.com/ for the Patton Creek location.

Things going on in Birmingham this week:
If you’re 17 or over, and enjoy a good laugh, the Comedy Club Stardome is having a one night only show with none other than Pauly Shore on Tuesday, January 17. They have two shows: one at 7:30 and one at 9:00pm (but remember kids, you have to come to school the next day!). Tickets can be bought online at http://stardome.com/ or at the Stardome theatre in Hoover. Be sure to get there early, this one’s bound to sell out! Tickets are a hefty $25.50, so be sure to bring a wallet full of cash. 444-0008 is the number to call to buy tickets from the stardome, be sure to have a credit or check card if you call this number.
Other upcoming events in Birmingham include the Broadway hit Hairspray coming up in March, and the Barnum and Bailey’s Circus coming up next week. Ticket information will be up for those events starting next week.
Local Music Spotlight:
This week’s local music spotlight goes to The Ackleys. Hailing from the Birmingham area, the Ackley’s consist of sisters Allison (keyboard/vocals) and Katie (guitar/vocals), Carter on drums and Michael on bass guitar, with all of them being 18 or younger. They have been interviewed by Birmingham’s National Public Radio and various other publications. Their sound is rich, happy, and warm, and they put on a really great show. Their next show is on January 28th at Cool Beans Coffee House in Birmingham. Doors open at 7 o’clock and as soon as I get a ticket price I’ll have it up here, chances are it won’t be over 5 bucks. You won’t be disappointed, they are a must-see. To hear songs from their album and more information check out their myspace at http://myspace.com/ilikelikeliketheackleys.
